This Parents' Charter has been instigated by the parents and organisations involved in PACT:GT (Parental Action for Gifted and Talented). Click here for more information about the project.

The parents and organisations involved in PACT:GT are united in their belief that parents of all children have basic rights and these rights are no different for the parents of gifted children.

Every parent of a gifted child has the right:

1. To know the educational needs of their gifted child and for this to be explained to them in a way that is jargon free and easy to understand
2. To be engaged in the education of their gifted child and for that engagement to be appropriate to the needs of the parent
3. To be treated as an equal partner in the education of their gifted child and for their contribution to be valued and respected
4. To receive adequate support to ensure they have the skills and confidence to meet the needs of their gifted child
5. To access local, national and international networks for opportunities to share experiences, hopes and concerns
6. Not to be discriminated against because they have a gifted child
7. For no one to assume that everything in their life is alright simply because they have a gifted child
8. To be an advocate for their child

The aims of of the Parents' Charter are to set out the basic rights of the parents and carers of gifted children, and to make national and international, governmental and educational organisations aware of their needs, regardless of background.
