NAGC and CfBT Education Trust have produced a DVD entitled 'Why University?' This was part of the City Gates project which aims to raise aspirations, widen participation into higher education and to improve outcomes for young people. This DVD is aimed at parents of gifted children who are capable of receiving a top university education, but who have no personal experience of university themselves. The film meets with 5 families who all have a child who is currently a first generation university student. Their real life stories are inspiring and their advice and personal experience is invaluable for parents in a similar situation. The DVD also includes tips from first generation university graduates on a range of topics from dealing with student loans to what the university experience is really like.

The booklet "Where next?" that accompanies the DVD is available to download here. It has been produced by parents, for parents, to help steer them through the minefield of helping a gifted teenager reach some of the decisions they need to make about their future. It is based on the real concerns of real parents, who want to help their son or daughter, but simply don't know the best way to go about it.
